About the Movie:

Dean Cain of Lois & Clark and The Dog Who Saved Christmas stars as Glenn Barrows, a recent widower doing his best to raise his young kids Elliot (Jet Jurgensmeyer) and Phoebe (Meyrick Murphy) who really miss their mom. When the Barrows adopt an adorable puppy named Belle during the holiday season, it seems that their healing may have begun. But will Glen’s dog-hating, gold-digging new girlfriend (Kristy Swanson of Big Daddy and A Christmas Wish) spoil their newfound happiness, or can Elliott and Phoebe pull off a daring Christmas Eve rescue of their beloved new pet? Haylie Duff (7th Heaven) co-stars in this heartwarming comedy about family, friendship, and a four-legged holiday miracle.

My Opinion:

This is a cute family movie about a youngish widower and his two kids. It’s the Christmas season and this will be the first year without their mom. Dad is just starting to date again and the kids don’t like the woman he has chosen. At a community fair the local rescue director is there trying to find homes for puppies and the young son falls in love with a fluffy, white ball of energy. Dad says no and they all go home. A day later the rescue director brings the puppy by saying it has been bereft ever since they left. It is destiny that the dog belong to them Dad relents and everyone is happy except the girlfriend – who is highly allergic to dogs!

This is definitely a movie for the kids. I am sure they would love the storyline; it’s driven by the children in the story. The mean girlfriend causes them to have to search for the puppy and much craziness ensues that will make small ones laugh. For an adult watching it alone it was a little too contrived and some plot points seemed pulled out of nowhere. It almost seemed like two movies merged into one; the search for the puppy and the mysterious actions of the dead wife.

It’s a Christmas movie so I’m not spoiling anything by writing that there is a happy ending for all involved, except I suppose for the evil spirited girlfriend. Her comeuppance is quite entertaining. There are lots of cute dogs and cute kids.
