I’ve decided this year to participate in Lori Anderson’s Bead Soup. I’ve seen it year after year and always thought it looked like fun but I either missed the deadline or didn’t think the timing was right for me – blah, blah, blah. This year I stopped the excuses and made a point to sign up. I’m hoping it will help me get back to making jewelry which is something I truly do enjoy but just haven’t found the time to do .
Bead Soup is basically a swap; it’s a little more complicated because Lori goes to great lengths to pair people after sign ups are closed. The rules require only that you send a quality focal bead, special clasp and coordinating beads to your partner but people generally get enthusiastic and send far more than required.
Being a first timer she made sure to partner me with someone who had experience. My partner is the very friendly Pat from Bracelets Too on Artfire. Pat works in pearls and gemstones much as I do so we are a good match. Being new to the club I hope that I sent a good “soup.” I’m sure I’ll learn from this year as I see what everyone has sent and received. I have already learned that I should have taken photos of what I sent to Pat. Oh well. Next year.
I fear Pat will be disappointed as my package to her was not nearly as thoughtful as hers was to me. She included a notebook for sketching – I thank you for that Pat. It will get used but I am not a sketcher. I have no talent whatsoever for drawing. She also sent chocolate. Milk chocolate. My favorite. She said in her lovely note to save it for when I was creating but I must state that I’ve eaten it already. I cannot be trusted around chocolate.
So on to the lovely sparklies she sent to me:
pretty spiffy, huh?
I know I’ll be able to create something magical with all of that. Many of these are stones I’ve not worked with before and I really like the clasp. The big “reveal” of all of the pieces made will be done in a blog hop on May 3rd and I will, of course, have it posted here.
I thank Pat for her delightful selection of beads. I know I’ll have fun with them. I do hope she enjoys what I sent to her. Be sure to go and visit her shop.
So stay tuned!
