The Happy Goats are not neat eaters. In fact I don’t think any goats are neat eaters. They will go through the hay and pull out a huge mouthful and drop three quarters of it on the ground. And of course once it hits the ground it’s no good any longer. What self-respecting goat would eat food from the ground?
A fellow goat owner bought what are really horse feeders for her goats because she was having a similar problem Isobelle Golightly, the Beautiful Goat is not a delicate eater. She had a good result so I figured the next time I had a little extra money I’d give this a try with my herd. I ended up with an Amazon gift card so I bought two of them to try them. They are known as slow feed hay feeders (affiliate link) and so far so good.
The first day they went out I got several “what the heck are these” looks. But goats are very food-centric animals and it didn’t take long for them to figure out what to do with them.
They soon learned that their breakfast was inside and once they knew that there was no stopping them.
Soon all the goats were happily munching away at the new feeder. I’m happy because there is less waste on the ground and they are happy because – well, they are always happy when there is food.
The slow feed hay feeders are really well made so I’m expecting them to hold up well. They are easy to load with hay and simple to hang. I am all about the simple.
So I am happy, the goats are happy, the hubby is happy – even the ducks liked it. What more could I ask?
