Is there anyone out there who DOESN’T love chocolate? I think I’ve met one person in the entirety of my life experiences that didn’t enjoy the sweet, delicious taste of just about everyone’s favorite sweet. A new way to enjoy some chocolate while having fun has entered into the subscription box pantheon – Mystery Chocolate Box is here to tempt your taste buds and make you think about the chocolate you eat.
I just love the outer packaging. It made me smile when I received the box in the mail. Especially the “Relax. Your chocolate has arrived.” My bars arrived on a day where the temperatures were hitting well into the 90ies but they were well insulated and had two small (formerly) frozen icees inside. The chocolate was in perfect condition! Obviously the company takes care when shipping in hot temperatures.
So where does the mystery come into play? When you open your box you will find three bars of chocolate but the labeling has been removed! You have no idea what kind of chocolate you have received!
This is where the fun begins! You are invited to have friends or family (or if you are a chocolate glutton – just go for it yourself!) join you to taste the chocolates and guess what is in each bar. You then enter your guesses on the Mystery Chocolate Bar site and if you guess correctly you win a prize. After the month is over the contents of the box is revealed on a special page on the site so you an read all about the different chocolates and their creators. You do also receive the nutritional info for each bar so you can check for anything that might cause an allergic reaction.
The box is available in one month ($17.95), three month ($50.85) and one year ($191) subscriptions. Right now if you share about the Mystery Chocolate Box on one of your social networks you will receive $8 off of your first month.
So, what did I think? I am always one for getting a surprise in the mail. The box I was sent had two dark chocolate bars and one milk chocolate bar so the hubby got the better end of the deal. Yes, I go for milk chocolate. The milk bar was of a high quality and I will not comment on how long it took me to eat it. The hubby is more circumspect when it comes to the consumption of sweets and his are still in the ‘fridge. He said that they are both very tasty but he does not tend to care for stuff in his chocolate and obviously the one bar on the right has crispies. Such is the chance one takes with mystery boxes. The quality of the chocolate itself, though is very high. I will not comment on how much chocolate I consume to know this….
Would I buy the Mystery Chocolate Box? As a gift most certainly. For myself, not so much ’cause I would rather buy chocolate I know I will like rather than get something where I will have to give two thirds of it to the hubby! I do think it would make a very fun gift.
