I love watermelon! Last year the hubby bought a watermelon plant on a lark and it died, came back and grew me a little watermelon. This year he planned. He plotted. He researched. He bought short season watermelon seeds.
There is a veritable forest of watermelon vines out in the garden. I will have photos at another time. He brought me this last night.
Isn’t it GORGEOUS?!
It passed all the “ripe” tests; it thunked, it had yellow on the bottom and the tendril near the stem had wilted. They are supposed to weigh between 2 and 4 pounds and this baby came in at 4.12 pounds.
I was so very excited!
We cut it open….
It was not quite ready.
It was slightly sweet but it was not quite watermelon sweet.
So I wait for the others growing out there and hope that frost doesn’t come before they are ripe.
There is one that is about the same size as this one and 4 more that are about half the size.
Keep your fingers crossed!
