A promotional item was provided to me for today’s discussion of the GoDaddy Website Builder. The host for this event is Still Blonde after all these Years
I have been a long time customer of GoDaddy. I bought my first domain from them back in 2009. Several more domain purchases followed and I have been very happy with the service I have received from the company. I am the least technologically inclined person on the planet and any time I had a question the customer service folk were patient and kind with me.

How Easy is it to Build a WebStore?
Let’s find out, why don’t we?
It was simple to click the link to the GoDaddy Website Builder. From there it was a matter of clicking “start for free” and then making the choices to build my vision for what Happy Goat Soap would like as a webstore.
The first thing to do was to choose a color scheme and the font I liked. Green has been the color I’ve used all along on my labels for the soap shop so I figured I’d stay with has worked for me so far. As for a font – as much as I like some of the fancier ones I know how important it is for everything to be readable both online and on packaging so I kept it simple. The font I use for my labels wasn’t offered so I chose another one. I did play around a bit with some font just to see what they would look like.
Details, Details
The details are what makes it all look good! After I found my font I chose the layout that I liked best which was one with my shop name on the right and a photo on the left with my logo on top of the photo. Next I uploaded my logo and went to find the perfect photo to represent the shop.
What else but Pricilla grazing peacefully in the sun. Now I had the front of the shop built in a way that I liked; my color, my goat and my logo. I was quite happy at this point. By now I’d spent about 20 minutes and it would have been less if I’d have been a little less well, me. I had some confusion in getting myself back to the layout screen and then I somehow managed to shut down my computer – don’t ask.
Time to Add Inventory
Next task was adding the different soaps to the shop. This is where some time would be invested depending on how many different items and variations you had as a shop owner. The process for adding each one is simple; there is a place for a description, you can add variations and you can choose whether you want the site to maintain inventory for you or not.
I also liked the ability for add ons. It was nice to be able to offer ribbons and a gift card for the customer. Often times people are sending a gift and like to have some way to dress up the purchase.
Who Am I?
That is surely a question for the ages but for the purposes of this writing it’s more in regards to being a maker and seller of soap. It’s actually Pricilla’s soap and even though she is no longer on this earth her spirit looms large over the soaps. She will forever be a Famous SpokesGoat even if she is wearing wings. The about section was easy to complete with personal photos and information pertinent to the shop.
Ready to Go!
At this point the shop is ready to go live should I choose to launch it. You can see what it would look like on desktop and mobile. To make things easy GoDaddy presented me with the opportunity to purchase a domain name as soon as I finished. I already have one with them but it’s pointed to my current online marketplace. If I wanted to redirect the domain I could easily do so within my GoDaddy dashboard. Now with a couple of different soaps loaded into my new shop I probably spent an hour all told getting it up and ready to go. Should I decide to launch I would need to spend about another half an hour or so loading inventory into the shop. Not bad though – especially for someone as inept with technical stuff as I am.
It was very easy to get myself to this point. I never felt lost or so confused that I felt the need to use the Let’s Chat option. But it was there for me any time I wanted. Or I could have called support. I’ve called GoDaddy support in the past and my experience was very positive.
Other Aspects
The shop is set up to take PayPal payments. I can also start the process to accept credit cards should I choose. There is also a wonderful marketing section to help create a database for targeted emails and newsletters. You can also create coupon codes and put certain items on sale if you choose. This is the first time I’ve done any site building (outside of a blog) and I was pleased with how easy GoDaddy made the process. The only disappointment I encountered was a shortage of fonts. If that’s the worse thing I can write then I think they must be doing something pretty well. GoDaddy can also provide your web hosting needs. Just head over to the site to learn about the variety of hosting services they offer. They have a 99.9% uptime guarantee, so you don’t have to worry about your business, blog, or personal site going down at an important time.
