I am very excited. The hubby and I had bought a ready made hearth to go under the woodstove. It was pretty – a greyish slate with black grout. It looked lovely with the navy blue woodstove and against the silver-blue-grey walls.
But then we went to fit everything into the corner.
With the clearances for the woodstove the hearth would have to sit cattywampus to the wall with about a 2 foot surround of flooring. It would be butt ugly. We very really bummed because we had already bought the hearth but decided that it would just really look too bad and we were putting so much work into the house to ruin it for the sake of a $150 hearth.
So we went off to Missoula today to buy something so we could build a hearth. Now me being erm, clueless thought we had to get slate tiles. Little did I know that there was this whole world of rock.
Gorgeous, beautiful, amazing rock.
I now have almost 600 pounds of charcoal mica sitting in the yurt. It is amazing! The color is a subtle silvery blue grey with the veins of mica running through it giving it this shimmer….and I am a girl that cannot resist something that sparkles.
Who knew? ROCK!
We got home too late for me to take any pictures but I will get some up before too long. It is going to look stunning against the walls and with the stove on top. We are going to use grout that is a storm cloud grey for lack of a better description.
ROCK! If I had only known…..
