Sometimes you think you know someone ’cause you come to their blog and read their book reviews and enjoy their recipes. Then you find out something disturbing about them. Like that the person behind the blog is an almost 60 year old woman who has a thing for slime. Yes, that gunky stuff kids like to play with. Slime is just AWESOME. I was so excited when the latest recipe box from Simply Earth arrived and the first recipe card I pulled was from borax free slime.
Of course I knew right then what I was going to be making from the box. Although I will admit that the stress ball was a very close second. First, join me as I open the box and show you what was inside:
Simply Earth July Recipe Box
As you can see this month’s box is all about helping relieve stress. The enclosed recipe cards include:
- Sweet Dreams Bath
- DIY Scented Stress Ball
- Lavender Scented Bubbles
- Sweet Dreams Roll On
- Homework Diffuser Blend
Tangerine and Lavender essential oils are very familiar to me from when I was making soap. Tangerine is one of my favorite citrus oils. It is, at least to me, one of the most refreshing scents. I will admit to being excited about making the stress ball but it was the slime that really got me going. I can’t say enough how much I love slime.
That is just sad for a woman my age, but there is a little kid in all of us and mine manifests for slime.

Making Borax Free Slime
There is just something soothing about the squishiness (is that a word) about slime. Making this batch was very easy with the ingredients (mostly) included in the Simply Earth Recipe Box.
It’s simple to make. You will need:
- In a small bowl mix together 1 TBS fractionated coconut oil and 4 drops tangerine essential oil. Set aside
- Add 2 cups of warm water to a large pot over medium low heat.
- Stir in 1 TBS psyllium hulk powder, 1 tsp cornstarch and natural coloring if using.
- Bring to a boil. Boil for 8 minutes
- Remove from heat and pour coconut oil/essential oil mixture over top and mix in.
- Let cool completely
How Was the Borax Free Slime?
It’s slimy. Just as slime should be. It smells delightful. I did change the recipe a bit from the card in the box. If you have been visiting for any length of time you will know that I simply cannot follow a recipe! Instead of using lavender and tangerine essential oils, I just used tangerine. I am not a huge fan of lavender as a scent and this my slime so I will have it smelling a way I want.
I put my slime in a container so I can pull it out any time I want to play with it. Now I am considering names. I will let you know if I come up with one I like.
For now I am just happy to have my very own slime. The husband thinks I have gone over the edge.
