It was a pretty quiet week for the most part which was good because someone gave me his cold. I haven’t had a cold in more years than I care to count and I’d forgotten just how miserable they are. I was coughing so much I think I coughed up a lung. Gah! I’m STILL coughing but not nearly as badly as I was and my voice is coming back. Whether the hubby sees that as improvement or not I don’t know.
He has been going full bore trying to get the new chicken house built. The new chicks are due to arrive and he is going to use the new building as a brooder. I am most in favor of this ’cause having them in the basement is a royal mess. They put up so much dust it is ridiculous. Not to mention the stink.
He has made great progress and should be done today. He ran in to some difficulties with the plans. He purchased them, bought the materials and got so far as to build the trusses for the roof. Then he gets an email from the place where he purchased the plans. Oops, we’re sorry. There’s an error and the measurements are wrong. He had to go out and buy all new materials and rebuild the trusses. They were short by 7″. He is NOT happy.
Harry the Farm cat is inspecting things now to make sure all is A-OK. Whatever would we do around here without Harry on the job? That cat just LOVES to climb.
The weather has been its bipolar self. Yesterday was as glorious a day as I’ve seen in a long, long time.
I washed my sheets, blanket and quilt and hung them out on the line to dry. The whole bedroom smelled like “outside” when we went to bed. It was heavenly. Today? The clouds are again covering the sun, it’s windy and snow is in the forecast for later this week. Ugh!
Yesterday was the hubby’s birthday. He had a meeting he had to attend in the evening so we are celebrating later this week. I still wanted to make him a nice dinner so I pulled out his favorite fish – salmon – and asked him how he would like it cooked. He went old school and asked for it to be blackened.
So that’s what I gave him. I’ll have the full recipe up on the blog later in the week. He really enjoyed it. I’ve got soft shell crabs coming for his real birthday dinner. He loves them and they will be a big treat.
AbbyGoat had been very sick over the winter and I was unsure as to whether she had maintained her pregnancy. Well yesterday while she was sitting in the sun I got confirmation that she was still pregnant – that or she has aliens inside!
I made a video that you can watch on YouTube HERE if you would like but that huge lump on her side was moving and dancing. She should kid sometime this week. In other goat news, Luke the goat got a present on the hubby’s birthday –
Louise the goat! There will be kids in September. I like to spread out the kidding so that I have milk all year round. Hey, this is a round up of what happened on the farm and this is what happens on the farm. Luke was happy, Louise was happy and I’ll be happy when the kid(s) arrives.
I stayed up to see the Blood Moon last night. We had clear skies and this time of year that was not usual. I watched it progress and I must say I was happy that I made the effort. It was really cool to see.
I took a couple of photos but with my little camera didn’t get much. Hubby said to wake him if it was visible and when it went full red I did just that. He got up and we went out and BOOM – just like that cloud cover. Over the whole moon. I couldn’t believe it. Up ’til then I had clear skies. Poor man. He’ll have to wait for the next one.
So that was this last week. Who knows what next week will bring!
