Last week I brought you the first of my two part series on Life Lessons Learned from Cats. The Farm cats are a big part of my life as you all have figured out by now. I’ve had cats in my life for well, most of my life so it just stands to reason that they’ve taught me things through the years. So, what can a cat teach you? Read on…
What Can a Cat Teach You?
In last week’s post on Life Lessons Learned from Cats I discussed the first five lessons: Sometimes It’s OK to Hide, Work Breaks are Important, Don’t Be Afraid to Explore New Things and Nap Like You Don’t Care. I’m sure you can appreciate that these are all good lessons to be learned.
I ended with a fifth lesson which is to eat good food. This is one all of us can agree on I do believe. Here on the Farm for us humans that means all of the vegetables and fruits we grow. For the cats it includes a diet of both kibble and wet foods.
Hill’s Science Diet™ Cat Food is made with quality, natural ingredients. I like knowing that there are no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives in what I give the Farm cats. I also love how convenient it is to purchase at Amazon with the Subscribe and Save program. You sign up, pick your delivery timeline and your Science Diet Cat Food shows up on the Big Brown Truck.
Your first purchase comes with a 20% off coupon, after that Amazon Subscribe and Save offers discounts on your scheduled purchases of either 5% or 15% dependent upon what you are having delivered.
Now that we have discussed the first 5 Life Lessons Learned from Cats how about I show you the remaining 4?
A Little Comfort Goes a Long Way
There are times I don’t feel well and I’ll lie down on the couch. It’s not long before I’m joined by a purring companion. I’ve seen them do the same thing with each other – when Harry was recovering from being hit by the car Sherpa kept a close watch over him.
I will note that I do like it when my kitties take such good care of me but if I had known they’d be so attentive I’d have bought a larger couch!
As you can see from the video the Farm cats know when I need some extra care and they are quick to provide it. If you can’t view it here you can watch it on YouTube.
Play is Important
Cats are great for teaching this lesson. I have never seen an animal go from sound asleep to bouncing off of the walls in a millisecond quite like a cat. Toss a little catnip into the mix and things get even crazier.
If I am feeling a little out of sorts all I have to do is break out the wand toy and play with the cats for a while and soon I am laughing so hard I can hardly breathe. Or I just have to toss around their favorite ‘nip ‘nanner and get out of the way. Soon it is flying through the air and I’m enjoying the show. This reminds me that it is important to be silly sometimes and just play.
Care For One Another
None of the Farm cats are true siblings but I tell them they are brothers and sister. I have seen remarkable instances of them caring for one another and it has taught me that if 4 animals coming from such disparate places can form such a strong bond then maybe there is hope for humans.
I will also note that it makes my heart melt when I see them sitting together all friendly like. Until one of them starts chewing on another one….but that then goes under play time. I can’t have everything all at once, can I?
Don’t just ask, demand. The Farm cats are very good at this one. At any given time any one of the four of them will plop down in my lap – no matter what I am doing – and demand to be pet. If I try and move Harry out of the way he simply comes right back. If I put Sherpa on the couch back he just jumps back down into my lap. I have learned it’s just faster and easier to give the pets. Plus it is pretty restful to sit and pet a cat.
Thank you Farm Cats
I thank the Farm cats and all of the cats that came before them for showing me all of these life lessons. Hopefully you have found them as useful as I have and perhaps have picked up some ideas. If nothing else, if you have cats (or other pets) keep your eyes open – who knows what you might learn!
Be sure to feed your pets the best food you can. For the Farm cats I include Science Diet Cat Food in the mix. Hill’s also offers wet foods as well as kibbles that are designed for different pet needs.
Amazon Subscribe and Save makes it easy to have your Science Diet Cat Food delivered on a regular basis. This is such a benefit if you live in a rural area, are busy or just for the plain and simple convenience of not have to think about whether you need more pet food!
