Let’s talk shoes. Well, not just shoes – footwear. Because let’s face it, most of us wear more than just shoes. I know that living on my little farm I have different needs than someone living in the city but for the most part these must have footwear suggestions will work for a lot of people. I don’t go in for much fancy stuff – unless you count my dress cowboy boots – so read on to see what I have in my footwear wardrobe.

Must Have Footwear
I will be the first one to admit that I don’t get off of the farm all that much. That means I spend most of my time in my socks. When I do go outside I wear my Muck Boots. They are incredibly comfortable and fantastic for going into the pens.
When winter hits and we have snow on the ground I plan to wear my Arctic Winter Boots and will show you how they keep my feet warm and dry when the time comes.
Hiking Boots
I have had my hiking boots for close to 15 years now. They are super comfortable and well worn in. The hubby took me shopping for them and if I recall we bought them in Philadelphia. They are Eastern Mountain Sports and I sincerely doubt they make this style any longer.

I am loathe to give them up to get a new pair because they are so darn comfortable. It’s not like I’ve overused them. They are my going in the woods shoes and my winter warm shoes for the days when my cowboy boots just won’t work. They have gone walking/hiking in 31 states so they have covered some territory.
If you are the type to go walking or hiking in the woods a pair of quality hiking boots are imperative.
Sneakers
Everyone everywhere has sneakers, don’t they?
I, of course don’t have plain sneakers. Mine are fancy ones ’cause I don’t do things the easy way.
I found these Vans women’s sneakers when I went home to New Jersey one year and I adore them. But wear whatever makes you happy.
Boots/Cowboy Boots
I discovered cowboy boots long before we moved to Montana. My first pair was bought in Tennessee while we were traveling around in the fifthwheel. For me they are about the most comfortable footwear out there.
I currently have three pairs, although only two show up in the photo. My brown Tony Lamas (similar) are my wear all the time, uber comfortable boots. I’ve had them long enough to have had them resoled twice. Then there are my dress Stetsons (Flora Boots). I only wear them to fancy affairs.
Dress boots are nice to have, especially if you live in a colder climate. I have a black pair that I found on ThredUP for a song. They were new and are the softest leather.
Flats
On the occasions that I want to dress up my jeans just a little or I want something a little nicer with my sundress I like to have some pretty flats in the closet. They are great for anyone to have to just grab to go with almost anything these days.
I have two pairs that I wear with regularity. They are comfortable and the navy and gold go with just about everything.
Flats are great for anyone to have as they can dress up jeans or khakis and can be worn with dresses and skirts.
Interchangeable Shoes/Heels
I don’t get dressed up all that often but that doesn’t mean I don’t get dressed up. My heels are somewhat non-traditional – they are interchangeable shoes from Alterre NY. I have written about them before on the blog (see my review.)
AlterreNY has only expanded their line since I wrote that review and now they have a lovely low heeled, closed toe shoe that I adore. The way AlterreNY shoes work is you purchase the lift – the base shoe – and then you buy different looks or straps. In the instagram post above I have a dressy look on and now I’m going to show you a more classic look with AlterreNY latest addition – charms!
I tried the feather charm with both my black suede heel with the Malbec “Jackie” look. I have at this point about 6 different looks for my lifts and am eyeing up a couple of more.
Here you see the same feather charm with my black rattlesnake slides with an Evening Sky “Marilyn” look. The shoes actually fit very well, it was just hard to take a photo and get a good shot of the charm. The hubby was not home at this time.
He was home in time to take a short video to show you how easy it is to attach the charm which you can use on any shoe that has a 1/4″ strap. There are several different accessories available and you can see them all HERE
The charm is very easy to attach is it’s fun to have it on my shoe.

Shoe Wardrobe
I hope my must have footwear suggestions have proven helpful. I fully realize that my life here on the farm causes me to need some different types of shoes/boots that someone who never leaves the city but there are some types that we all have in common. And if you ask me – everyone looks good in cowboy boots.
