Remember the little watermelon growing in the garden?
Well, the hard frost was coming so we had to pick it whether it was ready or not.
It grew a little bit bigger.
It really wasn’t as ready as it should have been but we have been having mornings in the 20ies for a couple of weeks now so it was take it or lose it. Such is Montana gardening. We really had a long season this year. I don’t even want to talk about all the tomatoes….
But back to my watermelon. I brought it in and decided to cut it open for dessert one night.
It was REALLY pale.
I didn’t have high hopes for its taste but figured I would give it a try.
I was surprised. While not super sweet like one would expect from a watermelon it did have a touch of sweet to it. It was like the taste of what might have been.
Maybe next year.
