I will start this review by saying that I already knew I loved pomegranate juice.
I love pomegranates so it would follow….and I had already tasted POM Wonderful.
But the folks at POM were looking for different uses for POM. Using it in cooking.
Well that was right up my alley, wasn’t it?
I received a 12 pack of cute little POM bottles. I had to slap my husband’s hand away from them ’cause he wanted to drink them all. I said he could have some but I needed a few for cooking purposes. I should have taken a picture of his face. We both did end up drinking some and it IS delicious – nice and tart and absolutely perfect on a hot day.
Here is some information straight from the POM site:
POM is the only brand that can guarantee 100% authentic pomegranate juice because we are the only brand to grow, juice and bottle our own fruit. There are no middlemen.
At POM Wonderful, pomegranates are our only business. We grow them, pick them and juice them ourselves. We believe in the goodness and the amazing health benefits of Wonderful variety pomegranates, and we promise 100% authentic pomegranate juice in every bottle we ship.

I decided to make a POM and cherry sauce for some venison steaks. I knew the fruits would be the perfect complement to the game. Sorry for the first photo’s blurriness. By the time I realized it was blurry a certain husband had drunk all of the POM and I couldn’t reshoot.
So out came the POM and the sauce pan.
The color of the pomegranate juice is so beautiful. A rich, dark magenta.
In went the fresh, halved cherries.
I knew rosemary would be an excellent herb to go with the sauce.
I always keep splits on hand for sauce making; I never know when I might need a bit of wine. I used half the split in this sauce.
I also added the stalk from the rosemary for flavoring.
I let it cook down ’til the liquid was about halved and then I added some salt and pepper and the chopped rosemary.
Then a bit of butter with flour to thicken it up and give it a nice shine.
I served the venison with the sauce on orzo with some fresh spinach that had been lightly sauteed in olive oil with garlic and touch of balsamic vinegar.
The husband approved.
I will also be featuring POM in my Baking for the Firemen post this week as the Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake I made utilized POM in the Cherry/POM sauce on top!
I enjoyed playing with the POM and know I will pick up more the next time we hit the Big City as it’s not available here in our little town. My brain can for see endless cooking possibilities ahead, especially now that I’m in my new kitchen.
